What Are QR Codes? A QR Code (it stands for "Quick Response") is a mobile phone readable barcode that's been big in Japan, Europe and now in the USA. The easiest way to explain what it is think of it as a print based hypertext link. You can simply encode a URL into the QR Code and then point a mobile phone (or other camera-enabled mobile such as an ipod touch) at it. If the device has had QR Code decoding software app installed on it, it will bring up its browser and go to that URL (most likely that is how you got to this page).
However, it doesn't stop there - a QR Code can also contain a phone number, an SMS message, V-Card data or just plain alphanumeric text, and the scanning device will respond by opening up the correct application to handle the encoded data appropriately.
The specifications for QR Codes are set in the ISO-18004 standard so they are the same all over the world. The only significant variations from one QR code to another (apart from the data it contains) is the number of modules required to store the data.
To make things a bit more robust, the QR Code also contains its own error correction data, internal orientation calibration and self-alignment markers. In this way it doesn't matter whether the QR code is upside down or wrapped around a curved surface, the message will still get through. How Does Stellar Web Production use QR Codes?
There are a variety of ways to use the qr codes in your marketing materials. We have used them to direct to a specific page of a website from a magazine and continue an article. We have also put them on business cards to save the contact info of the cardholder to the phone of the user. You could print them onto anything like stickers and then point it to a webpage that you update with new specials. In the case of our own business cards we direct people to this page so they can learn more abouthow to use QR Codes!
